Four Types of Forklift Safety Lights

Four Types of Forklift Safety Lights

Forklift lights are valuable and essential equipment that facilitates forklift safety. A warehouse can be a dangerous place, mainly for pedestrians. Numerous forklift-related injuries are recorded each year because pedestrians or fellow forklift operators do not receive any indication of the approaching forklift. Therefore, integrating different safety devices is necessary to lower injury rates and optimize workplace safety. Safety devices commonly include horns, brakes, seatbelts, overhead guards, and forklift lights.

Forklift safety lights shine on the warehouse, warning pedestrians of oncoming lift trucks. It also enables the forklift operators to see their forward paths. Even if pedestrians cannot hear the approaching forklift, the intense light grabs their attention and steers them away from the path of the oncoming forklift to avoid getting hit. An effective indicator is the safety zone emitted by a front white light, rear blue light, and side red zone forklift light. These are useful in areas with blind spots and the intersections of your warehouse.

Specialty Lights

  • Strobe Lights flash intermittently to alert pedestrians and other operators of the approaching forklift. These strobe lights come in various blue, red, amber, and white colors. Based on its model, you can mount it in different locations in your forklift.
  • Blue Spot Lights are usually mounted on the forklift's overhead guard. It aims down at the ground behind or in front of the forklift. It indicates the forklift's presence in the vicinity to the pedestrians and fellow operators. These are more useful when entering and exiting aisles where the blue lights stand out in the environment. The spot lights are also available in other configurations such as key-activated, travel direction-activated, and different colors.
  • Red Zone Lights are mounted on the overhead guard's left and right sides. It shines a red light strip at the ground to send an alert. These forklift side safety lights emit an intense red beam onto the floor 10-20 ft on either side of the forklift. Accordingly, one must maintain the distance.
  • Forklift white safety light shines a bright white spotter light. Installed at the front of the forklift, it helps alert those in the surrounding area. The bright light is also proper when operating a forklift in darker, less-lit warehouse sections.

Benefits of Forklift Lights

  • Speed of Arrival: The red, white, blue, or strobe lights installed at various locations on the forklift sheds an ample amount of light to help pedestrians and fellow operators to the direction and speed of the approaching forklift.
  • Border: Since the forklift does not have the flexible ergonomiccapability, it uses a large radius to turn, which increases the incidence of injuries. The light signals people to avoid the forklift's movement radius and spot the vehicle quickly. It creates a NO GO zone which one must avoid in the warehouse.
  • More effective than sound: Forklift safety lights are known to be more effective than warning alarms. Within large working spaces like a warehouse, sounds can be misleading as it blends with the surrounding noises. It may fail to indicate the forklift's precise location the way safety lights can.

To Conclude:

Forklift safety lights are valuable equipment that helps to effectively warn a pedestrian and prevent the occurrence of a disastrous accident. Hence, you must include it in your forklift to create a safe working environment.
